The Banshees of Inisherin Opening at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes
Opening December 9, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents The Banshees of Inisherin, an intense dark tragicomedy film written and directed by acclaimed British Director Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) that follows lifelong buddies who find themselves at an impasse.
Set on a remote island off the coast of Ireland, Pádraic (Colin Farell) is devastated when his long-time friend Colm (Brendan Gleeson) suddenly puts an end to their friendship. With help from his sister and a troubled young islander, Pádraic sets out to repair the damaged relationship by any means necessary. However, as Colm's resolve only strengthens, he soon delivers an ultimatum that leads to shocking consequences. The film delivers gorgeous scenery and outstanding lead performances by Farell and Gleeson. [2022, Ireland, 114 min, Rating: R]
Max Weiss of Baltimore Magazine exclaims, “The film toggles masterfully between comedy and tragedy; realism and fable. It manages to be both of the moment and completely timeless.” Sarah Michelle Fetters of MovieFreak.com writes, “McDonagh, Farrell, and Gleeson deliver something special, The Banshees of Inisherin unquestionably one of the year’s best films.”
