THE FLORIDA PROJECT Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

 

Starting on November 24th the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present THE FLORIDA PROJECT, a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant drama about childhood.

 

Set on a stretch of highway just outside the imagined utopia of Disney World, THE FLORIDA PROJECT follows six-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince in a stunning breakout turn) and her rebellious mother Halley (Bria Vinaite, another major discovery) over the course of a single summer. The two live week to week at “The Magic Castle,” a budget motel managed by Bobby (a career-best Willem Dafoe), whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion. Despite her harsh surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life, her endless afternoons overflowing with mischief and grand adventure as she and her ragtag playmates fearlessly explore the utterly unique world into which they’ve been thrown. Unbeknownst to Moonee, however, her delicate fantasy is supported by the toil and sacrifice of Halley, who is forced to explore increasingly dangerous possibilities in order to provide for her daughter. Screening times are 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Friday - Saturday (Nov 24-25), 3:00 pm on Sunday (Nov 26), 4:00 pm on Monday (Nov 27), 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Wednesday (Nov. 29), and 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Thursday (Nov 30). Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Admission for a screening is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater located at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza, behind the Lewes Wawa.
