THE FORGIVEN Opening at the Cinema Art Theater
Opening July 22, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents The Forgiven, a searing drama that takes place over a weekend in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco and explores the reverberations of a tragic accident.
David (Ralph Fiennes) and Jo (Jessica Chastain) are a couple on the edge of divorce who are taking a vacation in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage. However, their already-tense time takes a turn for the worse when they accidentally hit and kill a young boy. As the two split off to reckon with their actions, they find themselves coming to terms with their respective vices – David with his uncaring and vicious bigotry, and Jo with her unbearable compliance and repression. In these introspections, those around them will be left picking up the pieces. [2021, UK/Morocco, 117 min, Rated: R]
Richard Roeper of the Chicago Times Sun writes, “A wonderful film noir that feels like something straight out of the 1940s.” Tim Cogshell of the FilmWeek pens, “It's very good... Great performances and it left me feeling ambivalent about a lot of things.”
