FREE SOLO opening at the Cinema Art Theater

November 30th, 2018 - 7:00 pm
FREE SOLO OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on November 30, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present FREE SOLO, a death-defying documentary about one of the greatest physical achievements in the history of humanity.

From award-winning documentary filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi (MERU) and world-renowned photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin comes National Geographic Documentary Film’s FREE SOLO, a stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of the free soloist climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: climbing the face of the world’s most famous rock ... the 3,000 ft. El Capitan in Yosemite National Park ... without a rope.

Celebrated as one of the greatest athletic feats of any kind, Honnold’s climb set the ultimate standard: perfection or death. Succeeding in this challenge, Honnold enters his story in the annals of human achievement. FREE SOLO is both an edge-of-your seat thriller and an inspiring portrait of an athlete who exceeded our current understanding of human physical and mental potential. The result is a triumph of the human spirit. [2018, US, Runtime: 97 minutes, Rated: PG-13].

“Chin and Vasarhelyi have made a film that works both as a praiseworthy historical document rich in context and visual detail, and as a gripping emotional journey full of mythical resonance. Believe the hype, and go see FREE SOLO,” writes Ann Hornaday of “The Washington Post.”

All screenings will take place in the main theater. Screening times are 7:00 pm on Friday (Nov 30), 4:00 pm on Saturday (Dec 1), 3:00 pm on Sunday (Dec 2) 4:00 pm on Monday (Dec 3), 1:00 pm on Wednesday (Dec 5) and 7:00 pm Thursday (Dec 6).
