Historic Lewes Farmers Market
George H.P. Smith Park
Corner of Dupont & Johnson Avenues

Hello Friends.
Members of our community need to have more access to fresh local food, and the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) is partnering with Epworth United Methodist Church to help with their food pantry. Here's how you can participate in this very worthwhile program. You may either pre-order or come to the Market and tell the vendor what you want to purchase to donate to the Epworth program that day. You might consider leaving it up to the vendor, and just say you would like to donate $5, $10, $25 or whatever amount of produce, and let the Vendor put together a box. At the end of the Market, the produce will be gathered and given to the Epworth Food Pantry. It's a challenging time for lots of our friends, and this is a good way to get nutritious food to more members of our community. We thank you for your generosity, and, if you have any questions, please contact us:  [email protected].

Thanks to all of you for supporting the Market last week. This Saturday you will find fresh blue crabs, early tomatoes, first blueberries of the season, strawberries, kale, asparagus, radishes, cabbage, cauliflower, salad turnips, red and green Romaine, Swiss chard, carrots, kale, spinach, bok choy, croissants, baguettes, scones, pies, quiche, milk, butter, fresh roasted coffee-beans and ground, chicken, pork, and much more. Please see bottom of this letter for information on parking, using SNAP at the market, and Covid-19 rules. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

The HLFM advises that due to Covid-19 the Market is very different from last year. The entrance to the Market at the Park will be near the vendor entrance gravel path from the circle driveway. There will be a hand-washing station with foot pump at the entrance, and a volunteer will also be at the entrance with sanitizer spray for customer's hands. In addition, there will be a hand-washing station at the exit. The Market's perimeter is enclosed, and there is only one entrance and one exit, and everyone in the Market must wear a mask.

The circle driveway in front of the Fred Thomas Building will be closed from 6:30 am to 1 pm. This means that no cars can drop off any customers in that circle, as the market needs the space so that customers entering and exiting do not cross each other. The Wednesday Crooked Hammock Market will open on Wednesday, June 17, so that customers who cannot walk as far can access the market's local produce.

There is very little parking at the parking lot in the Park, and it is best to either walk or bike to the market. Lewes School, its parking lot, and its playing fields are entirely fenced off. The Market thanks Beebe Hospital for allowing customers to also park in the outdoor Beebe lot in back of the Hospital. Customers can enter that parking area through the main entrance to the Hospital between Rite Aid and the Hospital. The Park has an entrance from the Beebe lot. It is closer to get to the one entrance to the Market if customers go right on the path at the Park after entering. There is a Google map of the Beebe Hospital parking lot and the Park on the HLFM website (historiclewesfarmersmarket.org) that shows how to get from the Beebe parking lot to the one entrance to the Market.

The Market will continue to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. The SNAP tent is located next to the Market trailer, within the circle, near the entrance to the Market. SNAP customers should wait in line to get into Market. When they get to front of the line, they should tell volunteer they want to use SNAP, and will be directed to the SNAP tent where SNAP/EBT will be processed, and they will receive their Bonus Bucks. After receiving their tokens, SNAP customers will go back to entrance and will be able to enter Market without waiting in line again. WIC and SFMNP coupons are also welcome at the Market.
