Historic Lewes Farmers Market

November 13th, 2021 - 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Volunteer Appreciation Day and Food Drive
Historic Lewes Farmers Market at Shields Elementary School
(Savannah Road and Sussex Drive)

November 13, 9 am – noon

Saturday, November 13, is Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Market. It takes over 30 volunteers each week to run the market. They come in rain or shine and during a pandemic to help, and they take pride in their jobs. They do traffic control, assist demos, take the gate counts, inform customers on who has what and vendor locations, set-up and take-down the market, remove the trash, and much more. Without volunteers, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market would not be one of the best markets in Delaware.

Customers are asked to both bring non-perishable items to the Market, and to also consider purchasing fresh food at the Market to donate to two organizations who feed those in our community who need a little help. The food pantries request certain non-perishables including spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf stable milk, rice, and beans. Please honor the HLFM's mission and the health needs of folk who use the food bank by providing healthy foods.

Customers and friends should bring items to the HLFM Information Tent inside the Market.

Market farmers are bringing the freshest Brussel sprouts, radishes, turmeric, persimmons, cauliflower, spinach, lettuces, potatoes, winter squashes, sweet potatoes, pears, apples, cider, mushrooms, turkey, pork, chicken, beef, crabs, eggs, breads, jams and jellies, pastries, milk, yogurt, kombucha, fresh beauty products, and beautiful fall wreaths. Click here to see a list of vendors at this week's market.

The Fall market is located at Shields Elementary School Parking lot from 9 am to 12 pm. The market will be at Shields each Saturday through November 20. Not only is the Historic Lewes Farmers Market a producer-only “where the farmers are” market, but it is also a rain or shine market.

Parking is limited at the Market, as the Lewes School parking lot is still fenced off due to construction. Customers are advised to either walk or bike to the market. The Market thanks Beebe Hospital for allowing customers to also park in the outdoor Beebe lot in back of the Hospital. Customers can enter that parking area through the main entrance to the Hospital between Rite Aid and the Hospital.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market.

The HLFM also continues its partnership with the Epworth United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to the Epworth program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to Epworth. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
