RBFS National Theater Live series presents "Angels in America, Part 2"

October 7th, 2017 - 1:00 pm
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society announces the next play in the exciting series of National Theatre Live screenings. National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project that presents the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

“Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes” continues with Part Two: “Perestroika”, which picks up where Part One ended. Two men are dying of AIDS and they are polar opposites. Prior Walter (Andrew Garfield) is a respected member of New York’s gay community and Roy Cohn (Nathan Lane) is a closeted, powerful right-wing politician. Three important, fantastic scenes happen in Part Two and the dramatic confrontations are combative, with a touch of humor. The actors rise to eloquent heights and Garfield in particular is haunting and spellbinding.

In the mid-1980s, while America was in the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grappled with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell. This new staging of Tony Kushner’s multi-award winning two-part play is directed by Olivier and Tony award winning director Marianne Elliott (“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” and “War Horse”).

Andrew Garfield (“Silence”, “Hacksaw Ridge”) plays Prior Walter along with a cast including Denise Gough (“People, Places and Things”), Nathan Lane (“The Producers”), James McArdle (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) and Russell Tovey (“The Pass”).

“Daily Telegraph” gives the production five stars and states, “A start-to-finish sensation. The performances and the plays absolutely fly.” And “Evening Standard” says “A true theatrical epic.” (Rated: R, Runtime 4 hr, 15 min, with two intermissions).

Screenings of Part Two: “Perestroika” will be on Saturday, October 7th at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 9th at 1:00 pm and Tuesday, October 10th at 6:00 pm at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Admission for National Theatre Live is $18 for RBFS members, $20 general admission and $15 for ages 16 and under. Online reservations (www.rehobothfilm.com) are encouraged and may be made with MasterCard or VISA.
