RBFS presents Journeys in Art History, PAINTING THE MODERN GARDEN: MONET TO MATISSE

February 13th, 2017 - 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is pleased to present the new, three-part Journeys in Art History film series. The focus is to introduce the works of history’s greatest painters and provide opportunities to view blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries worldwide.

The series will begin with the exquisite Exhibition on Screen film, PAINTING THE MODERN GARDEN: MONET TO MATISSE on Monday, February 13, 2:00 PM, at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive, Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Doors open at 1:30 pm.

From the exhibition walls to the wonder and beauty of artists’ gardens like Giverny and Seebüll, PAINTING THE MODERN GARDEN: MONET TO MATISSE is a magical journey to discover how Monet and his contemporaries built and cultivated modern gardens. Guided by passionate curators, artists and garden enthusiasts, this remarkable collection of Impressionists, Post-Impressionists, and avant-garde artists of the early twentieth century discuss the rise of the modern garden in popular culture and the public’s enduring fascination with gardens today. Long considered spaces for expressing color, light and atmosphere, the garden has occupied the creative minds of some of the world’s greatest artists. As Monet said, ‘Apart from painting and gardening, I’m no good at anything’. For lovers of art or lovers of gardens, this is an ideal film. In her eyeforfilm.com review, Jennie Kermode says, “A film full of detail and replete with beauty, PAINTING THE MODERN GARDEN is a piece of art that is itself likely to be treasured over time. It's a must for those with a pre-existing love of impressionism, and a fascinating introductory piece for others.” [2016, Italy, Runtime: 93 minutes, Not Rated]

Admission is $6 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rehobothfilm.com or by calling 645-9095.
