WHITNEY OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

August 3rd, 2018 - 4:00 pm
WHITNEY OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on August 3, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present WHITNEY, a fascinating story which gets to the complicated truth about a very famous singer.

Whitney Houston broke more music industry records than any other female singer in history. With over 200 million album sales worldwide, she was the only artist to chart seven consecutive U.S. No.1 singles. She also starred in several blockbuster movies before her brilliant career gave way to erratic behavior, scandals, and death at age 48. This documentary is an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston’s life. Using never-before-seen archival footage, exclusive demo recordings, rare performances, audio archives and original interviews with the people who knew her best, Oscar®-winning filmmaker Kevin MacDonald unravels the mystery behind “The Voice” who thrilled millions even as she struggled to make peace with her own troubled past. [2018, US/UK, Runtime: 120 minutes, Rated: R].

Katie Walsh of the “Tribune News Service" describes “Whitney as daring both emotionally and aesthetically, and gets to a kind of truth about Houston the public has never known before.” If you are a music lover, you will enjoy the performances in this film by the one-of-kind singer. Tara McNamara of “Common Sense Media” suggests “MacDonald should make some room on his mantle: This documentary may just earn him another Oscar. ‘Whitney’ delivers the thing its audience wants most: answers.”

Screening times are 4:00 pm on Friday (Aug 3), 7:00 pm on Saturday (Aug 4), 4:00 pm on Sunday (Aug 5), 4:00 pm on Wednesday (Aug 8) and 7:00 pm on Thursday (Aug 9). Admission for CAT: THIS WEEK films is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
