HILMA Opening at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes

Opening May 19, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents Hilma, a compelling drama that explores the enigmatic life of the Western world’s first groundbreaking artist.

Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) is an important part of art history and one of the first ever painters of abstract art. However, unlike the work of many of her peers at the time hers was misunderstood and neglected until long after her death. This is a story about Hilma and the circumstances which made her paintings possible. The film picks up during her early life and ends today; when her art connects with people of all religions and cultures. Just as she intended. [2022, Sweden, 120 min, Rating: NR]

Neil Minow of RogerEbert.com remarks, “The affection for af Klint and for creating art shines through.”

Screening times are 3 pm on Fri (May 26), 5 pm on Sat (May 27) and 2 pm on Wed (May 31). Admission is $9 for members, $11.50 for general audiences and $5 for students. Purchase advance tickets online at www.rehobothfilm.com or at the Cinema Art Theater box office in Lewes.
