RBFS Women's Film Series presents THE FOUNDERS

March 28th, 2017 - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is pleased to collaborate with the League of Women Voters® of Sussex County to present the second annual Women’s Film Series. The focus of this monthly series is to inform, inspire, and empower audiences by exploring a range of women’s issues through the art of film.

The series continues on Tuesday, March 28 at 7:00 pm with a screening of the inspirational documentary, THE FOUNDERS. In 1950, 13 amateur women golfers battled society, finances and sometimes each other to create the Ladies Professional Golf Association (The LPGA). With humor and grit these underdogs established a sport legacy during a time when athletic women were not accepted in the country club world of American golf. Through rare archival footage, historical re-enactments, and current-day interviews with the surviving founders, a story of champions is told. Winner of the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 40th Atlanta Film Festival, THE FOUNDERS isn’t just for those who frequent the golf course. This film is for anyone who believes in the transformative power of defying the odds. Director Charlene Fisk said, “This was a story of heroines. Here were a group of women who came along before Title IX, women who helped to create the bedrock for the women’s movement. Why doesn’t everyone know this?”  [2016, USA, Runtime: 85 minutes, NR]

A post film discussion will be led by Rebecca Dengler. Ms. Dengler is a LPGA Master/PGA professional and coaches all levels of players at Ed Oliver Golf Club in Wilmington, DE.
She has had the privilege of spending time with some of the founding members mentioned in the film, as well as some of the best women coaches, researchers and educators in the game. Some of her recognitions include LPGA Top 50 Teachers, Best Women Teachers in America, and LPGA Section Teacher of the Year to name a few.

The screening will be held 7:00 pm on March 28 at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive, #2, Lewes. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Admission is $9.00 per screening. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rehobothfilm.com or by calling 645-9095.
