LADY BIRD Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

December 29th, 2017 - 4:00 pm
LADY BIRD OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on December 29th the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present LADY BIRD, the exciting debut feature by actress Greta Gerwig, about a young woman’s attempts to forge her own identity as she escapes the stifling confines of her hometown. The film is being brought back to the area due to popular demand.

Excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter, Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home. [2017, US, Runtime: 94 minutes, Rated: R].

“Nearly perfect,” writes David Edelstein of “New York Magazine”. In naming it his favorite film of 2017, Michael Phillips of “The Chicago Tribune” says, “If a more enchanted movie comes along this year, I’ll be surprised.” Winner of Best Picture and Best Actress (for Saoirse Ronan’s performance) at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, nominated for four Golden Globes, and appearing on a number of publications’ “best films of the year” lists, LADY BIRD is a must-see.

Screening times are 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Friday (Dec. 29), 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday (Dec. 30), 2:00 pm on Sunday (Dec. 31), 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Tuesday (Jan. 2), 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Wednesday (Jan. 3) and 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Thursday (Jan. 4).
