TO DUST OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on March 8, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “To Dust,” a complex but ultimately uplifting comedy about a grieving husband’s search for answers about the end of life and the unlikely friendship that brings him comfort.

Shmuel (Géza Röhrig), a Hasidic cantor in Upstate New York, distraught by the untimely death of his wife, struggles to find religious solace, while secretly obsessing over the fate of her remains. As a clandestine partnership develops with Albert (Matthew Broderick), a local community college biology professor, the two embark on a darkly comic and increasingly literal undertaking into the underworld. [2019, US, 92 minutes, Rated: R].

Richard Roeper of “The Chicago Sun Times” calls “To Dust”, “a dark but not bleak comedy, an oddly effective love story and also a classic buddy movie…lovely and offbeat and kind of wonderful.” Yolanda Machado of “TheWrap.com” praises the film as, “A unique take on one of the most painful and important parts of being human, the film is original and honest. Even knowing very little about the traditions of Hasidic Judaism, it was easy to relate to the very human element of finding a connection that ultimately leads to healing.”

Screening times are 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Friday (Mar 8), 3:00 pm on Sunday (Mar 10), 2:00 pm on Monday (Mar 11) and 1:00 pm on Wednesday (Mar 13). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
