STAN AND OLLIE opening at the Cinema Art Theater

March 22nd, 2019 - 2:00 pm

STAN AND OLLIE OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on March 22, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will take you back to the golden age of show business to tell the story of a great comedy duo at the end of their careers with the tender and hilarious drama “Stan and Ollie”. The spot-on performances of John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy and Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel capture the pathos and comedic genius of these aging icons and make this film a can’t-miss.

With their time as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, Laurel and Hardy set out on a tour of Britain in 1953 facing an uncertain future. But, as the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans. A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative marriages, they are aware that they may be approaching their swan song, trying to rediscover just how much they mean to each other. [2019, US, 97 minutes, Rated: PG].

In his review for “The Chicago Tribune”, Michael Phillips ranks the film as “one of the best showbiz biopics of recent years, not because it ‘explains’ the what and why of Laurel & Hardy, but because it’s a touching, gently sentimental evocation of a tricky decades-long working friendship.” Lindsey Bahr of “The Associated Press” calls the film, “simply terrific — an understated but smartly told crowd-pleaser…with wonderful production value, a sharp and surprisingly poignant script and brilliant performances.”

Screening times are 2:00 pm on Friday (Mar 22), 6:00 pm on Saturday (Mar 23), 2:00 pm on Sunday (Mar 24), 4:00 pm on Monday (Mar 25), 2:00 pm on Wednesday (Mar 27) and 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Thursday (Mar 28). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
