The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is proud to present the third Delaware LGBTQ+ CINE-brations Film Festival in partnership with CAMP Rehoboth. Six films will be presented over four days (April 4-7) at the Cinema Art Theater:

TRANSMILITARY
Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 PM
Delaware Pride

“Transmilitary” follows the Emmy™-nominated short film “Transgender, at War and in Love.” Around 15,500 transgender people serve in the U.S. military (notably the largest transgender employer in the U.S.), where they must conceal their gender identity because military policies ban their service.

“Transmilitary” chronicles the lives of four individuals defending their country’s freedom while fighting for their own.

They put their careers and their families’ livelihoods on the line by coming out as transgender to top brass officials in the Pentagon in hopes of attaining the equal right to serve. The ban was lifted in 2016, but with President Trump now trying to reinstate it, their futures hang in the balance again. [2018, US, 92 minutes, Not Rated].

After the film, Alexandria Holder, an Active Duty Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force with 14 years of service, will be speaking about her experience in the military. Alexandria enlisted in 2004, and has seen duty in San Antonio, Texas; Monterey, California; Fort Meade, Maryland; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and Afghanistan.  Alexandria is married to her wife, Brittanie, and they live in Baltimore, Maryland, with their 4 children.

SNAPSHOTS
Friday, April 5 at 4:00 PM
Hosted by Mona Schwartz, Sharon Miken and David Stabile, CINE-brations committee members

Living alone in her lake home of 50 years, Rose is flooded by memories after a weekend visit by her daughter and granddaughter, when a long-forgotten roll of film reminds her of the summer she met and fell in love with the bold and beautiful Louise. “Snapshots” is a film about hidden truths and the joy that can be found when you finally shine a light on them. [2017, US, 95 minutes, Not Rated].

A MILLION HAPPY NOWS
Friday, April 5 at 7:00 PM
Hosted by PFLAG

“A Million Happy Nows” wrestles with a difficult subject that provides the viewer with smiles, comfort and hope. It chronicles Lainey and Eva’s changing relationship as they struggle to deal with the diagnosis of Lainey’s Early Onset Alzheimer’s. Together they face down the prospect of an indomitable woman’s future of dependence on her single support system—the woman who was once in awe of her, became everything to her, and will now look after her. [2017, US, 80 minutes, Not Rated].

THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST
Saturday, April 6 at 4:00 PM
Hosted by Jim Lesko, Keith Zembower, Jan Cooper and Michael Cockey

From writer/director Desiree Akhavan and based on the celebrated novel by Emily M. Danforth, “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” follows Cameron (Chloë Grace Moretz) as she is sent to a gay conversion therapy center after getting caught with another girl in the back seat of a car on prom night. Run by the strict and severe Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother, Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.)—himself an example of how those in the program can be “cured”—the center is built upon repenting for “same sex attraction.” In the face of intolerance and denial, Cameron meets a group of fellow sinners including the amputee stoner Jane (Sasha Lane), and her friend, the Lakota Two-Spirit, Adam (Forrest Goodluck). Together, this group of teenagers form an unlikely family as they fight to survive. [2018, US, 90 minutes, Not Rated].

TUCKED
Saturday, April 6 at 7:00 PM
Hosted by Chris Beagle, Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices-Gallo Realty

When veteran drag queen Jackie Collins receives a diagnosis with six weeks to live, all he wants to do is perform his long-running act, and behave as if all is normal. But between a surprising new friendship with a rising young queen and unfinished business with his estranged daughter, he may just have the most eventful month and a half of his life. A feel-good film with charm and humor as well as surprising insight into our evolving understanding of gender identity across generations, this marks the first queer film from prolific young British director Jamie Patterson. [2018, UK, 120 minutes, Not Rated].

THE LAVENDER SCARE
Sunday, April 7 at 1:00 PM
Hosted by Lenny Stumpf and John B. Pitchford

“The Lavender Scare” is the first documentary film to tell the little-known story of an unrelenting campaign by the federal government to identify and fire all employees suspected of being homosexual. In 1953, President Eisenhower declared gay men and lesbians to be a threat to the security of the country and therefore unfit for government service.

In doing so, he triggered the longest witch-hunt in American history. Over the next four decades, tens of thousands of government workers would lose their jobs for no reason other than their sexual orientation.

But the actions of the government had an unintended effect. They inadvertently helped ignite the gay rights movement. “The Lavender Scare” is a chilling reminder of how easy it can be, during a time of fear and uncertainty, to trample the rights of an entire class of people in the name of patriotism and national security. [2017, US, 77 minutes, Not Rated].

Admission is $10 per screening. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and there will be no exchanges.
